FAQ's

Do I need to book an appointment to try on wedding dresses?

Yes, it is always advisable to book an appointment to view our wedding gowns as we sometimes need to close the shop for another brides fitting.

If you would like to book an appointment please contact us

How long does a wedding dress appointment usually last?

We normally allow about an hour for trying on wedding dresses.

If you think that you will require a longer appointment we can certainly arrange this on a weekday but as Saturdays and Sundays are very popular it is unlikely to be possible on weekends.

How many guests should I bring with me?

Most brides find that it is quite helpful to bring a friend or family member to their viewing and we are happy to accommodate up to 3 guests.

We understand that some brides would like to bring more guests and while we can make accommodations for this on a weekday our shop is too busy on a Saturday for us to make any exceptions.

Can I bring children to my appointment?

As the shop is busy on a Saturday we cannot allow pushchairs or young children.

At all other times children are welcome although we do advise against bringing them to dress viewings where possible.

Do I need to bring anything with me to my appointment?

Comfortable flesh coloured or pale underwear is advisable and a strapless bra is always good but not essential. You are welcome to bring your own shoes and accessories but we also have lots of styles available to try in store.

The main thing we do ask is that you wear a minimal amount of make-up to protect the dresses.

What is your price range?

We try to accommodate for all budgets and have dresses that range from under £1000 to over £4000.

It's a really good idea to have a budget in mind before you start shopping and avoid trying dresses that are out of your price range, as this can be very upsetting if you fall in love with something that is unrealistic to your plans.

If you do see a style that you love but know is out of your budget please let us know as we will always do our best to find a similar alternative where possible.

What size dresses do you stock?

In our London and York shops we have dresses in stock ranging from UK size 6-14, but we can make dresses in all sizes and are happy to advise plus size brides.

In our Harrogate shop we have dresses in stock ranging from UK size 6-22 and can happily accommodate all shapes and sizes.

Is everything on the website available in store?

Everything on the website is not always available in each of our shops.

If there is a particular item that you are interested in viewing please contact us before coming to see it in store, we only have limited stock and can't guarantee that an item will be available to view unless an appointment has been arranged specifically to see it.

How far in advance should I order my wedding dress?

Most wedding dresses take approximately 6-9 months to order, it's advisable to start looking at least a few months before this. Shopping for your dress early means that there is plenty of time for fittings and choosing your accessories.

However, if you're working towards a date which is much closer than this don't panic as some dresses can be ordered on a rush delivery and we also sell a range of wedding gowns off the peg.

Do you offer an alteration service?

Yes, if you have ordered your wedding gown from us our in house designer or alterationists will be happy to do all of your fittings.

Alternatively we can also recommend an independent seamstress that you can visit at your convenience.

Are alterations included in the price of the dress?

With our made to measure wedding gowns by Catriona Dowse all alterations are included in the price.

With dresses from our other designers the wedding gown is ordered in a standard size closest to your measurements and then any alterations that are needed are charged as extra. The cost varies depending upon the extent and nature of the alterations required.

Where can I store my wedding dress?

Once ordered we are happy to look after our bride's wedding dress right up to their wedding day, it will be packed up into a dress bag or travel box for you to collect whenever is most convenient.

We also offer a range of beautiful storage boxes for after the big day.

Do you offer a dry cleaning service?

Yes, we can offer a dry cleaning service for our brides wedding gowns, please ask in one of our shops or contact us for details.

We can not however accept dresses which have been bought from other shops.
